I have an issue with pigeons.
Since I have moved into a downtown apartment, they have harassed my morning sleep. Their cooing and fighting on my window sill is driving me wild. With the sun rising earlier everyday - this has become a problem that has escalated to "out of control". As much as I have grown to hate them, I don't want there death on my hands. I have been researching my targets, and killing them is also illegal. In my attempt to rid the world (my bedroom window sill) of these rat birds I have tried the following.
1) opening the blinds wildly, while making the " caw caw" sounds of the crow. I am not entirely sure if they hate or fear the crow, but it does work - for 5 seconds. The Problem with this solution is that it gets me out of bed, and hyped up, as well as they return constantly. THEREFORE THIS IS NOT A SOLUTION !!
2) squirting them with water. This is also not a solution I can live with. This solution requires me to also be out of bed, and to have aim in the morning, it also doesn't solve the problem, as they constantly return.
3) I had heard they fear owls, I don't own an owl to use, so I drew one on some paper and hung it in my bedroom window, this amused them more than it did scare them, as the next morning there were more than usual on the window sill checking out the art work.
4) this LAST attempt will take place this week - I am going to try to place fly tape on my window sill, so they cannot land. If this works it will solve 1/2 of the ugly problem.
other 1/2 of the problem: they also sit on my neighbours sill, which is 1/2 a foot across an alley type space and on the roof of both buildings which is above my window. Even if I rid them of my sill, I can still hear them, and that is what is waking me up in the mornings. Damn those birds.
I debated on a fake owl, I still need to look into how well it works before I spend money on this.
Any help or suggestions are appreciated.

I have heard that the fake owl is a good temporary solution. No other ideas other than a bb gun, but that is just not right.

LOL I died laughing at the thought of you yelling "caw caw" out your window. Oh, and puh-lease take a picture of your owl drawing and post it on your blog. I'd love to see if it would amuse me as much as it does the rat birds.
You kill me. I'm so glad that I got you into the world of blogging. ;)
Damn I laughed so hard when you did the caw caw too!! And the picture was cute...I can see them critiqueing your artwork too!! My mom and dad had a fake owl on their pool deck to get rid of starlings pooping in the pool.. It worked for a little bit but then they realized it wasn't real. If you had something that made noise, it might work, but then you would have to deal with that noise too...(this is your friend Jolene by the way)
