I came across this meme on christielli’s blog, and decided to take part.
1. Hot Chocolate or Egg Nog?
Egg Nog wins hands down for me. I add it to my morning coffee throughout the season. I recently found a recipe for a frothed egg nog coffee which will be tried out during Sunday breakfast this week. There are a few companies out there that make egg nog and I recommend Presidents Choice.
2. Does Santa wrap presents or just sit them under the tree?
When we were wee children, Santa always wrapped presents. The husband and I decided we would also wrap presents on behalf of Santa for our wee one. It was decided that presents from Santa would be in Santa themed paper. This would be easy to continue each year.
3. Coloured lights on tree/house or white?
Our tree is white lights, as coloured may conflict with the others colours going on, but outside I have a mix of both. The wreath on the front of the house and the small tree are coloured. The garland on the deck and small Christmas trees are white.
4. Do you hang mistletoe?
I wish we hung mistletoe. Where do you find it. I like extra reasons to give smooches.
5. When do you put your decorations up?
End of November is usually when they go up. I love the Christmas tree and having it on in the evenings, so it goes up as early as I can manage.
6. What is your favourite holiday dish?
I think it would have to be turkey. I am not sure if Christmas dinner leftovers are considered a dish, but I love a plate of everything at 10pm after dinner is all over.
7. Favourite Holiday memory as a child?
I think it would be the year I got a tricycle and a cabbage patch kid. They were both stellar gifts. I have pictures from that year and I am hugging my little orange bike. The house we lived in at the time was a one story open concept, which was perfect for riding around until the spring came to go outside.
8. When and how did you learn the truth about Santa?
Horrible memory!! It was Christmas day at a family Christmas. My 2 older cousins took me for a walk to tell me ‘the truth’. I was so upset that the rest of the day is a haze.
9. Do you open a gift on Christmas Eve?
As kids, we always opened 1 present Christmas eve. It was always a present we got from Grandma and it was always clothes to wear to church. It sounds lame, but they were always the best clothes. My fav outfit was a turquoise cord skirt with a purple knit sweater that had whimsical high-rise buildings in turquoise. I haven’t much as an adult unless I am at a Christmas party with a gift exchange.
10. How do you decorate your Christmas tree?
It is different each year. I have a lot of xmas balls in diff colours and generally pick a few colours and go with that theme. 2 years ago it was all in pale blue and ivory. This year it is in peacock colours.
11. Snow! Love it or Dread it?
I like it for Christmas and I don’t mind it after either. I like the clean look of snow.
12. Can you ice skate?
I sure can. I go skating a few times a year, every year at a minimum. I go during lunch at work usually once a week for some exercise.
13. Do you remember your favourite gift?
Maybe a dollhouse my dad built for me. It had working lights.
14. What’s the most important thing about the Holidays for you?
To relax, slow down and spend quality time with people. I often find it SO RUSHED that there is no quality of time.
15. What is your favourite Holiday Dessert?
I am not a big dessert person, but I do eat it. I think I like stuff that is not too sweet….I had pavlova a few years back and really enjoyed that.
16. What is your favourite holiday tradition?
I am not sure….I wish I had some set in stone. I love that we are invited to friends for the 24th for a dinner and exchange. It has been a highlight in the past years, but I won’t make it this year. My dad still does stockings for us, and those are special. I am going to start some for this new family of mine.
17. What tops your tree?
A silver star made out of twisted wire.
18. Which do you prefer - giving or receiving?
I prefer giving.
19. Candy Canes: Yuck or Yum?
Yum. I had a rum ball with crushed candy cane on it and it was magical.
20. Favourite Christmas show?
I think the home alone movies are a top fav.
21. Saddest Christmas Song?
I’ll be home for Christmas…..reminds me of a specific Christmas when I was a kid and my parents were fighting….I wasn’t sure if they would both be there Christmas morning.
22. What is your favourite Christmas song?
I like the classics….they are easy to sing to.
