in the news

I read the news online everyday, and often multiple times a day. I read my local paper to see what is happening here, I read national papers, and then often google specific stories or locations to have a deeper insight into an interest at the time. I am not entirely sure when this interest came to fruition and I still do not like to watch the news on tv.

I had recently noticed that as much as I enjoy the variety of news, I also avoid a lot of news. I am a biased reader. I have noticed a trend in what I avoid and now wonder if that is why I stay clear of televised news. When you watch rather than read, you have no way to skip the story.

I have always been passionate about animals and their well being and cannot handle reading about animal cruelty or torture. I always feel like the people involved never see a punishment strong enough and an innocent life is often given in vain. Reading these stories makes me realize how disgusting some people can be. I have now started to avoid those articles based on the headlines. They cause so much anger and a sense of helplessness within me, that I need to avoid them for my own well being.

Sometimes all I can do is read the celebrity gossip part of the news. The rest is too depressing.
