to be a worm

Bordom struck a week or so back, and I was faced with the reality that I had read every single book in my home - school and personal. I was actually without any possible source of new material including flyers. I strapped on the runners and headed towards the library. I sorted out getting a card and started to look around. Then it hit me >> what do I want to read? I was struck by the choice of fiction vs. non fiction.
I am a fan of chapters by choice, where i can walk in - grab an overpriced beverage that I am unsure of its contents and browse the top 20 section. I like this!! - someone has already done the hard work for me and selected the good stuff out. I am happy with this process. No one does this at my library - they are shelved, and waiting for you to seek out the perfect one.
This blog will be my plea to readers to send me some titles of your fav books - so I can start reading again. I know school is starting soon, and I will have no time for myself, but that does seem to be the time I get the most done. I am heading there today to return the yoga videos i ended up with, cause I could not decide on a book.
Happy reading

I am going to say "Life After God" or "Microserfs" by Douglas Coupland.

A little trick I have employed in the past - going to Chapters, finding tonnes of books I'm interested in, writing down the titles, then looking for them in the library.

Okay, I'll throw out a bunch of recommendations:

Fiction:
a) Girl with a Pearl Earring - Tracy Chevalier
b) The Good Earth - Pearl S Buck
c) The Red Tent - Anita Diamant
d) The Secret Life of Bees - Sue Monk Kidd

Non Fiction:
a) The Glass Castle - Jeannette Walls
b) A Walk in the Woods - Bill Bryson (this is a funny book)

Hmmm... it's really too bad that you're not closer to the Christy library which actually has all of these titles. Except Girl with A Pearl Earring. I can't think of who I lent this to for the life of me.

I heard that 'Life of Pi' or something like that is good...

I do own it...yet don't have time to read it.

There's a bunch I want to read but lack the time, and titles of the books...I usually go on suggestion of other people as I can never read a book without someone raving about it.

Usually, books that have been made into movies are good reads. Here's my list of faves that I've read over the last few years (in no particular order):

1. Unbearable Lightness of Being - Milan Kundera
2. High Fidelity - Nick Hornby
3. Big Fish - Daniel Wallace
4. Chocolat - Joanne Harris
5. Like Water for Chocolate - Laura Esquirel
6. The Castle - Franz Kafka
7. Factotum - Charles Bukowski

Another trick is using Amazon.ca to search for new reading material based on what others with similar tastes have purchased and reviewed. Sometimes you can even preview the book itself. This also works for music and movies.

(By the way, I have some Yoga DVDs you may like - I'll bring them to the cottage for you.)
