I am heading south for the annual family christmas. My dads side, the whole family, gets together every year for christmas. We try to get together for other occasions, but this one is a for sure deal.
Years ago we would go to Grandma's house, then we outgrew it, continued to go and finally moved to a bigger home. We are now in a hall and it seems to work better. The space is there, but the atmosphere is gone. This does allow for more space for wheelchairs and running room for kids. This is my first go with a kid of my own so we will see how goes.
The past has had gift exchanges with names drawn, gift exchanges with games involved, no gifts, gifts brought for a charity, penny sales for charity and now this year a silent auction for charity. Our family has always tried to give back a little to others and we had incorporated this into our annual party a few years back.
We have also brought in the idea of potluck, which has been really great every year. In the olden days, Grandma ran the kitchen show, but since her passing almost 14 years ago it has been more potluck style. We are bringing a vegetarian dish this year that is mostly bulgar and quinoa with chickpeas, eggplant, peppers and raisins. It is super tasty :)
Hoping for another great year!
